Atalanta Coach Gasperini: "Lookman and I Are Friends Again"

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini has confirmed that his relationship with Ademola Lookman has been restored after a recent rift following the player’s missed penalty in a UEFA Champions League tie.

Gasperini had publicly criticized Lookman for the wasted opportunity, which led to disappointment on both sides and required intervention from the club’s management. However, the coach revealed that they have now patched things up.

"He and I have clashes, but then we make up because he is an extraordinary player who sometimes has a bit of individualism," Gasperini stated.

The Atalanta boss further praised Lookman’s commitment to the club, hinting that before the end of the season, the Nigerian international will wear the captain’s armband as a sign of his leadership and dedication.

"Lookman became a fantastic player when he thought more about the team. He made Atalanta great, and Atalanta made him great," Gasperini added.

The Super Eagles forward has been in top form this season, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assists in 31 appearances.

Editorial

Ademola Lookman’s strong relationship with Gasperini is good news for both Atalanta and Nigeria. Despite their recent disagreement, Gasperini’s trust in Lookman even considering him for the captaincy shows just how important the Nigerian winger has become to Atalanta’s project.

His impressive numbers this season reinforce his status as one of Nigeria’s top attacking talents in Europe. With Atalanta still competing for Champions League spots, Lookman will be key to their success. For the Super Eagles, his ability to perform under pressure will be crucial in Nigeria’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

If Lookman continues this form, he could soon attract interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, making him one of Nigeria’s most valuable footballers.
